Manchester United have been gifted an exceptional injury boost which is much needed regarding the negativity following their draw to Sevilla. Not only did they concede two late own goals but Erik ten Hag saw his two most important centre backs withdrawn through injury. It wasn’t looking good for the remainder of the season at full-time.
Drawing at home means that in the second leg, United have to come up with a big away day. Although, they’ll be helped by the latest player to return from injury.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United top talisman Marcus Rashford could return from injury in time for the second leg against Sevilla on Thursday evening. He won’t be back in time for the Leicester game this Sunday but United fans will be expected about his early return. Furthermore, Christian Eriksen has returned from injury and Casemiro has returned from suspension.
Manchester United have managed goals without Rashford but his presence on the bench has certainly been missed. When he first received the groin injury, it was expected he would be out until late April, potentially even May. Therefore, to have him back so soon is a testament to his recovery and the United medical team.
Since returning from the World Cup, Rashford has been one of the most in-form players in the league. He’s certainly been Manchester United’s best player. Not only his pace but his immense goal scoring ability once gave United hopes of winning the title, but now his return from injury could ensure they secure Champions League football.
The good news is United have two routes to Champions League qualification. They’ll want to finish in the top four of the Premier League but if not, they have the option to qualify through winning the Europa League. They’re certainly favourites in the competition.
