Manchester United 1-0 Brentford: Three Things We Learned

Admin

Manchester United reignited their top four push on Wednesday night as they edged past Brentford with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

On another intense night in Manchester, the Red Devils were forced to dig deep in order to see off the challenge of in-form Brentford. The two traded blows for large portions of the game, but ultimately, it was decided by one kick of the ball from Marcus Rashford.

Today, we’ll be taking a look at a few of our biggest takeaways from the game.

United start hot

There are some instances in which Manchester United can start slowly, especially this season. Alas, that wasn’t the case this time around as they came forward with real intent, pushing the Bees back with every possible move in the opening half hour. It’s all the more impressive, in many ways, given that they had to do it without midfield talisman Casemiro as a result of the Brazilian’s ongoing suspension.

Brentford fight back

Brentford have impressed us all this season but in the first half, they were a little bit flat. After the break, though, Thomas Frank’s men exploded into life and began to put a bit more pressure on the hosts. It wasn’t enough to earn them a point but when you take a look at this side, it’s remarkable to think how far they’ve come. At this stage, it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see them qualifying for Europe.

Relying on Rashford

United manager Erik ten Hag admitted after the full time whistle that his side have been somewhat too reliant in Marcus Rashford’s goals throughout the campaign. The 25-year-old hit his 15th league goal last night and his 28th in all competitions, putting up the kind of numbers that’ll be remembered for years to come. Now, the big task on the manager’s plate is ensuring that he has other weapons he can rely on.
