Newsom says California will sue Trump over National Guard, dares Homan to arrest him

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the state will file a lawsuit against the Trump administration for federalizing the California National Guard without the state’s permission. He criticized former President Donald Trump for escalating tensions and creating chaos during protests in Los Angeles related to federal immigration enforcement.

In an MSNBC interview, Newsom called Trump's actions "illegal," "immoral," and "unconstitutional," pointing out that there was no coordination with the state before the move — which is required by protocol. He emphasized that while California has used the National Guard responsibly in emergency situations before, Trump ignored procedures and spread false information.

Newsom also mocked claims made by Tom Homan, Trump’s border czar, who suggested he might arrest Newsom or Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass for interfering with immigration operations. Newsom responded defiantly, daring Homan to try and arrest him.

A spokesperson for Trump defended the decision, saying it was necessary to restore order due to Newsom’s leadership failures. They denied Newsom’s version of events, insisting that violence and disorder were clearly visible in Los Angeles before federal intervention.
